Reference Department
The Reference
Department at the Smyrna Public Library is located on the
2nd floor. Reference Librarians are happy to answer your questions
in the library, by phone at 770-431-2860 ext. 4 or via email.
The Reference Department is one of the largest for a library
of its size in Georgia. It's collection contains more than
8,000 reference books. The collection is very broad in scope
and includes encyclopedias, almanacs, statistical abstracts,
census data and many other sources to assist you in your research.
Other
available reference materials include phone books for all
of Georgia, local newspapers dating from the 1950s, school
annuals, many electronic archive databases on CD and a microfiche
records system.
Computer
Services
The Reference
Department also offers computer services to the public free
of charge. Eight computers are available to access the Internet.
Residents can sign up for up to two one-hour computer sessions
per day.
Users must sign off after one hour and get back in the queue
if others are waiting. Non-residents may access the Internet
computers for 30 minutes per day. Pages may be printed for
10 cents each.
Wi-Fi
Free Spot !
The Smyrna
Public Library is a Wi-Fi free spot with FREE wireless Internet
access to laptop users.The
Wi-Fi network can be accessed any time during operating hours
and there are no hourly time limits for using the network.
Users do not need to sign in.

Smyrna
Public Library cardholders are also granted free access to
GALILEO Georgias online library. GALILEO stands
for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online,
an initiative of the Board of Regents of the University System
of Georgia.
The system
can be accessed on the Internet within the library or from
home. The system includes an astounding 147 online databases
categorized as follows: Arts & Humanities, Business &
Economics, Georgia, Medicine & Health, News/Facts Reference,
Science & Technology, Social Sciences.
A GALILEO
password can be obtained by presenting your library card to
the Reference Librarian at the reference desk on the second
floor. Passwords change periodically so you will have to present
your library card again when it is time to receive a new password
in the future. Login

Genealogy
Collection
A separate
genealogical collection is found in the Genealogy Room for
patrons who wish to conduct genealogical research. It is located
near the Reference Department on the second floor. This collection
consists of nearly 5,000 books.
Library
cardholders can also access the library edition of Ancestry.com
by signing in at the reference desk. Ancestry.com is the largest
online genealogical database in the world with more than 5
billion (billion with a B) easily searched genealogy
records.
The library
edition of Ancestry.com is only available from within the
library and cannot be accessed from home.
